Terror. Horror. War.

Those were among the words that ran across front pages the day after planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

As we mark 25 years since September 11, 2001, it has become part of the American identity.

And while those of us who lived through that day have our own firsthand experiences, the passage of time alters some of our memories.
